The preschoolers in Room 121 had a SPOOKTACULAR time on Monday, October 31st! Both classes were engaged in Halloween themed learning centers, and were treated to munchkins and apple cider as a sweet treat to end our time together! If you have pictures from our day, please send them my way and I will post them!

Thank you to our 14 moms who came in and helped throughout the day for each class!!! A big shout out to Sheila, Karen, Yurendira our room moms! It takes a village!

A Preschool Halloween 2016

Over the past four weeks, we began a mini unit of inquiry into TREES and all things FALL! Check out two videos Miss Hopkins put together of all of the learning that has been taking place in room 121! Enjoy!

This year we are offering three extra curricular activities for our preschool students. The programs cost extra money, and are provided by different companies that are coming into our school. They are the following:

Dream Big! on Mondays from 10:40-11:30 a.m. (Held in room 122) http://www.dreambigperformingarts.com/

Mad Science on Wednesdays from 10:45-11:45 a.m. (Held in room 121)  http://chicago.madscience.org/

CircEsteem on Thursdays from 10:45-11:45 a.m. (Room TBA) http://www.CircEsteem.org

All three of these programs are excellent ways for the children to express themselves in different ways. Having the Mad Science class in my room, I was very impressed by the materials, lay out of lessons, themes, and overall program. The children were engaged the entire time, and were able to take something home with them that they learned from Science class.

Last Wednesday, September 21st our school participated in a world wide celebration of Peace! To help our young children participate, we read stories about peace leading up to the day, and wore the color “white” to show a color symbol to the word peace. We created peace kites with the children. We dictated their words of what peace means to them! They are currently displayed outside of our classroom. To wrap up our culminating day of celebrating peace, we sang a song of peace! Please click on the link below to view our video of peace!

PEIRCE PRESCHOOL SUPPLY WISH LIST

ROOMS 121, 122, 123

• 2 Liquid hand soaps (preferred brands: Seventh Generation and Cleanwell. We are trying to avoid products that have the word “Fragrance” listed in the ingredients).
• 2 containers of cleaning wipes (ie. Seventh Generation, Clorox)
• 2 rolls of paper towels
• 1 box of Ziploc Bags (Gallon Size)
• 1 box of Ziploc Bags (snack & sandwich size)
• 2 boxes of Kleenex
• 1 package of Baby Wipes
• 1 package of Glue sticks (Elmer’s brand preferred)
• 1 bottle of Elmer’s Liquid Glue
• 1 package of Crayola Markers (any color variety is fine)

Collect at home and bring in any time

• Egg cartons
• Bottle caps
• Box Tops

If you work at a job where there may be extra materials such as; paper (written on 1 side is OK) wood, straws, cardboard, etc. please let us know, we may be able to put the stuff to good use.

**Throughout the year we will be asking for specific things we need in our classrooms as they come up. We will list them in our monthly newsletters**

Our last field trip this school year was to The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum where the children got to visit their butterfly haven! This was our culminating experience from our unit of inquiry into butterflies! It was a great trip, and I will be posting pictures this weekend! Chicago Early Learning Preschool Application and Enrollment

Are you interested in the Peirce Preschool Program for the 2016-2017 school year? Do you know a family in the neighborhood that has a child that will be three on or before September 1, 2016? If yes, please fill out the interest form below! If your child is currently enrolled in our preschool program, and you wish to stay at Peirce, you do not need to re-apply. If you need to switch school’s due to your location or are moving, you will need to re-apply.

The New web based universal application system is scheduled to launch for preschool aged children across the City of Chicago by late Spring of 2016. This will replace the “Ready to Learn Enrollment” process that CPS has utilized over the past few years. We appreciate your cooperation, patience, and understanding through this new process.
